Insurance

All students in Germany must have health insurance. In order to be enrolled, the university must receive an electronic notification from a statutory health insurance company that you have health insurance.

Students from outside the EU/EEA:

If you don't have insurance:
You have the option to apply for health coverage with any statutory health insurance provider, such as TK, Barmer, AOK, and others (refer to potential contacts below). Once enrolled, the insurer will electronically notify us of your coverage. Exercise caution with offers from private health insurance firms like Mawista! For students, statutory health insurance coverage typically begins at the onset of the official semester (March 1st for summer semester and September 1st for winter semester). Hence, it's advisable to secure additional health insurance (e.g., travel insurance) if you arrive in Germany before these dates.

Costs:
The standard contribution for students remains consistent across all statutory health insurance companies, currently averaging around 120 Euros per month.

If you're already insured:
You must have your existing coverage evaluated by a statutory health insurance provider in Germany to ensure adequacy. Recommended contacts include TK (Florian.Faller@tk.de) or AOK (sascha.striehl@bw.aok.de). Policies must not impose price caps on treatments and should feature a deductible of no more than

Students from EU and EEA :
To ensure your enrollment, just provide a German health insurance company with a copy of your EHIC and your current address. Ask them to send electronic notification to Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. You can reach out to contacts like TK (Florian.Faller@tk.de) or AOK (sascha.striehl@bw.aok.de). €50 per treatment. Travel health insurance policies will not suffice. In the event of insurance rejection, acquiring statutory health insurance within Germany becomes necessary.
