Application

We are pleased that you would like to apply for a stay abroad at one of our partner universities. Below you will find information on when and where to submit your application and which documents are required. 

Please note that you can indicate up to 3 desired partner universities in your application. Please state the order in your letter of motivation for this and also write briefly why you would like to complete your semester abroad at which partner university.

Gather necessary Documents

➝ File name: ApplicationLetter_Name_Matrikelnummer

The file should be in English and may include:

  • Your Academic and Personal Background: Explain your educational and professional goals and how studying abroad fits into your overall plan.
  • Your reasons for wanting to study abroad: Explain what specifically interests you about the program and how it will help you achieve your goals.
  • Your relevant skills and experiences: Highlight any relevant skills or experiences you have that make you a strong candidate for the program, such as language proficiency, cultural awareness, or independent travel.
  • Your future plans: Explain how participating in the study abroad program will help you achieve your long-term goals and how you plan to apply what you learn in the future.
  • Your fit for the program: Explain why you are a good fit for the program and how you will contribute to the academic and cultural community.
  • Buddy Information: Highlight your current working activities besides studies. Specify your availability as a buddy, both before and after your abroad semester.

➝ File name: CV_Name_Matrikelnummer

The file should be in English and include: 

  • Contact information: Make sure to include your name, address, phone number, and email address
  • Education: List your highest degree first and work backwards. Include the name of the institution, the degree earned, and any relevant coursework or honors.
  • Experience: This can include internships, part-time jobs, or volunteer work. Include the job title, company or organization, and a brief description of your responsibilities and achievements.
  • Skills: Include any relevant skills or qualifications you have, such as language proficiency, computer skills, or technical expertise.
  • Awards and honors: Include any academic awards, scholarships, or other recognition you have received.

➝ File name: RecordTranscript_Name_Matrikelnummer.

  • The transcript should be in English (if there are problems with the English version, German is permitted as an alternative). 
  • The transcript should include your average grade.

Requirements are defined according to: www.europaeischer-referenzrahmen.de

Required language certificates, compare Global Partners, must be submitted together with your application.

Language certificates must not be older than 2 years on the day of entry into the partner institution's home country.

➝ English file name: LoR_Name_Matrikelnummer

The file can be in English or in German. 

We kindly ask you to point out to the person supplying your reference information about the following relevant content in the letter of recommendation:

  • Voluntary commitment
  • Social and intercultural competence as well as sense of responsibility
  • Academic and/or professional development potential
  • Willingness and ability to represent the faculty and university well abroad

Note: The letter of recommendation can be written by an academic officer (e.g. professor, lecturer) as well as by a person who holds an executive position in a company or association or in public administration.

Submit Application

  1. Register and submit your documents in the current Exchange Program Application Data Base in the Moodle area TIW Info

  2. Upload all your documents in the same Moodle area that you originally applied in, so that all your documents are in one place

Note: You have to APPLY FULLY at the Faculty W via Moodle (TWI Info) to complete your application. 

Only applications that are received on time and are completed via the Moodle course can be considered for selection. For queries, you can reach us by e-mail at international@wing.hs-mannheim.de.

Become a Nominee

All applications are first formally checked for completeness by Team IW. Incomplete applications or applications not received by the deadline will result in exclusion from the selection process.

The applications are reviewed and evaluated by the selection committee abroad. The selection is made on the basis of the application documents submitted and depending on the availability of exchange places for the period concerned.The following selection criteria will be used as the basis for evaluation:

  • academic and personal motivation for the study abroad (letter of motivation)
  • academic performance
  • language skills
  • letters of recommendation
  • Special commitment, internships, activities etc.
  • Expect application outcome notification via email within approximately 10 days.
  • If you secure a spot and wish to withdraw, notify us within four days by emailing international@wing.hs-mannheim.de.
  • Withdrawal after this period is only possible in justified exceptional cases.

1. Mobility Online Registration

If you have not already done so, please register with Mobility Online via the International Office and select the university according to your nomination. Fill in all required data and upload the requested documents, especially the language certificate.

2. (Optional) Appointment with Prof. Haupt

If you have chosen a Global Partner of Faculty M (Iowa, Oakland, Wyoming), please make an appointment with Prof. Haupt to coordinate your application through Faculty M.

3. Application at the partner university

After you have been nominated by us or the IO, the partner university will contact you. You must then apply there. Please refer to the application deadlines specified in the data overviews of the individual partners on our list of Global Partners.

4. CTP

Based on your accepted nomination, please create your CTP and confirm it with us as soon as possible.

5. Participation in the Ambassador & Farewell Event

With your acceptance, you commit to participating in the Ambassador & Farewell Event at the end of the semester before your departure.

6. Buddy

f you are nominated as a buddy by the International Office, the IO will contact you regarding the next steps. Further information can be found here: Link to Buddy page.

7. Financing

If you have any questions about financing your stay abroad, please do not hesitate to contact the International Office.
